Hello Abbottsford. In the interest of community education, we are providing the below information to make you aware of an area of concern among residents.
Several homes in the community have experienced some form of water supply line issue in past years. As the Nashville area continues to grow, and Metro Water adds, repairs, and replaces service lines throughout the area, water pressures can experience lows and highs in service pressure. As a general rule, water pressures should be between 50-70psi. Over 80psi is considered “too high”. In more recent years, pressure reducing devices have been made standard building code for homes, but that was not the case when many Abbottsford homes were built. Your home may not have a water pressure regulator or expansion system installed. The Water Department has a duty to make sure water lines have enough pressure to provide effective service for every home and business in Nashville. The responsibility of protecting the home from overpressure does fall on the homeowner. A common failure point are plastic connections and metal crimps, including supply lines (see below) and shut off valves. The connections are prone to stress failures after years of use, and not just from water pressure. The next time you have a qualified plumbing service at your home, you may consider having them check your water pressure, as well as plastic supply line fittings and shut off valves.
